Free beta · food and macro tracker

Log what you eat. Skip the fuss.

mangio is a simple food tracker. Pick a day, add food to a meal, see your carbs, fats and protein. That's the whole idea.

Think MyFitnessPal, with everything we never used taken out.

The day view. Five meals, the grams you ate, and the totals on top.

Why we made it

We only wanted to write down what we ate.

We used to log our food in MyFitnessPal. Over time, every screen got busier. More things to tap, more things to scroll past, more things we never asked for. Logging lunch should take ten seconds, not a minute.

So we built mangio for our own kitchen. We use it every day, and we kept only what earned its place. Then friends asked for it, so here it is.

Few features, all of them useful.

What it does

The short list.

  1. 01

    A day, five meals.

Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, Dinner and Additional. Each meal shows its kcal and macros, and the day adds them up. Swipe left and right to move between days.

  2. 02

    Find a food fast.

Search a shared food database (built from Open Food Facts) together with your own foods. Before you type, your recent foods are already there, and one tap on + adds the amount you had last time.

  3. 03

    Scan the barcode.

Point the phone camera at the package. If the food is known, you pick it. If not, you create it with the barcode already filled in.

  4. 04

Type the label as it is.

The label says "per 40 g bar"? Enter those numbers and the portion size. mangio does the math and stores it per 100 g. You can also save one named portion, like "1 biscuit = 8 g".

  5. 05

    kcal come from the macros.

You never type calories. They are always worked out from carbs, fats, protein and alcohol (4, 9, 4, 7 kcal per gram), so they can't drift out of sync.

  6. 06

Or take a photo of the label.

mangio reads the name and macros from a photo of the nutrition label, and you check them before saving. The photo is read once and never stored.

  7. 07

    Copy meals and days.

Same breakfast every weekday? Copy a meal or a whole day to other days in one go. A copy only adds, it never overwrites what you logged.

  8. 08

A week at a glance, and your weight if you want.

Home shows your daily averages for the week. You can set a daily macro goal, and log your weight once a day to see how it moves next to what you eat.

The real screens

Adding food takes a couple of taps.

Search. Recent foods first, each with the grams one tap on + will add.
New food. Copy the label per portion. mangio stores it per 100 g and works out the kcal.

What it does not do

Left out on purpose.

  1. ×

    No cups, spoons or ounces.

Everything is in grams. A food can have one named portion, and that's it. Long lists of units are the fuss we wanted to get away from.

  2. ×

    No typing calories.

kcal are always computed from the macros, so there is no second number to keep right.

  3. ×

    No vitamin and mineral charts.

mangio tracks carbs, fats, protein and alcohol. Nothing else gets in the way of logging.

  4. ×

No plans or targets made up for you.

No profile quiz, no recommended diet. If you want a goal, you set your own daily macros. Without one, mangio just shows totals.

  5. ×

No feed, no friends list, no badges.

It's a notebook for your food, not a social network.

  6. ×

    No workouts or step counting.

mangio is about food. Use whatever you like for training.

  7. ×

    No passwords.

You sign in with Google and a passkey. Nothing to remember, nothing to leak.

  8. ×

    No app store needed.

It runs in the browser on your phone or computer. Add it to your home screen and it feels like an app.

How the beta works

Small groups, free, and honest about what comes next.

  1. Leave your email.

That's all we ask. We use it only for the beta and the launch.

  2. We invite small groups.

A few people at a time, so we can read every bit of feedback and fix things fast.

  3. The beta is free.

Use mangio every day and tell us what bugs you.

  4. Then a small paid app.

When mangio launches it will cost a little. That's how it stays free of ads and never needs to sell your data. Testers hear about it first.

  5. Tell a friend.

If you know someone who tracks their food, send them this page. That's how small apps grow.
